Social phobia
Fear of unfamiliar people or social scrutiny ( critical observation)
What is specific phobia ?
Fear of objects or situations that is out of proportion to any real danger
Panic disorder
Anxiety about recurrent panic attacks; sometimes accompanied by agoraphobia (a fear of being in crowded/ public places where panic attacks could occur)
Generalized anxiety disorder -GAD
Uncontrollable worry for at least 6months
Obsessive-compulsive disorder -OCD
Obsessions which are uncontrollable thoughts, impulses or images or compulsions which are repetitive behaviour or mental acts
Post traumatic stress disorder -PTSD
Aftermath of a traumatic experience which the person re-experiences the traumatic event avoids stimuli associated with the event and experiences increased arousal.
Acute stress disorder
Symptoms are similar to those of post traumatic stress disorder but occur for less than 4 weeks after the traumatic event

Elderly fear of crowds due to the fear of being injured
Young adults are fearful of snakes, heights and storms
