Q

Neuroanatomy
- Name the 5 parts and their functions

A

The brain stem- the oldest part of the brain that is in charge of automatic survival functions

Medulla - The base of the brain stem that controls your heartbeat and breathing

Pons - Located above the medulla and coordinates movement

Midbrain - controls visual and auditory systems as well as eye movement

Cerebellum - located at the rear of the brain stem and processes sensory input and coordinates movement output and balance

  • Judges time, controls emotions, voluntary movement, sounds/texture

Q

Describe the Central Nervous System

(Brain and Spinal Cord)

A

Processes, interprets, and stores information. Sends orders to muscles, glands, and organs. The spinal cord is the bridge between the brain and the peripheral nerves.

The Peripheral nerves are the sensory and motor neurons that connect the central nervous system.
