Triplett study
Norman Triplett conducted a social facilitation study, whereby children reeled in fishing rods and were timed. Faster times were recorded when children were in groups.
Task orientated
Defines success based off of own performance.
Ego orientated
Defines success by comparing own performance to the performances of others.
Task Vs Ego orientated
Task - Persist and look for support
Ego - Stress, not look for support, increased likelihood to cheat.
Autonomy
Choice increases internal motivation (self-determination theory).
Competency
The degree to which an individual feels they are capable of achieving a task (self-determination theory).
Relatedness
Greater support with a task increases internal motivation (self-determination theory).

Pre contemplation - Contemplation - preparation/determination - action - maintenance - relapse
