Explain the different types of stress?

A

There are 2 types of stress:

Eustress is a good form of stress. It helps athletes to perform also eustress can help athletes improve skill levels and focus attentional on aspects of their chosen sport.

Distress is an extreme form of anxiety, nervousness or worry related to their performance. It is a result of perceived inability to meet the demands of the task. Also, performers will often experience both cognitive and somatic effects.

There are 4 types of anxiety:

Cognitive is the inability to concentrate, feelings of worry.

Somatic is your pulse rate, blood pressure and muscle tension increase.

state anxiety is a temporary emotional response to specific situations.

trait anxiety is generally perceive all situations as threatening.

How does arousal work in sports?

A

You must have the right amount of arousal as if u have low arousal you will not be able to focus on the thing you need to be. High arousal means you can only focus on a certain player or object and block everything else out. Moderate arousal you are able to concentrate on everything around you.

Eustress : improves performance, increases intrinsic motivation and focuses an athletes attention on the sport.

Distress : extreme anxiety, worry, apprehension or nervousness. Athletes believe they cant meet the demands of the sport.
