Explain the mind and body problem.
Scientists were wondering how we can study something as unobservable as the mind.
Explain mind-body dualism
The mind and body were seen as two separate entities, the body was observable and the mind was abstract and unobservable.
What did Rene Descartes argue?
That due to the mind being immaterial it was unknowable and impossible to study.
Explain the key ideas behind monism.
The belief that the mind and body are one, in this way the mind cannot be its own separate spiritual entity.
