What are the main features of CBT?
-Brief course (12-20 sessions)
-Based on present experience - idea that our mood is affected by our thoughts and behaviours
What does CBT aim to do?
Aims to break COGNITIVE BIASES eg:
-Catastrophising
-Jumping to conclusions
-Black and white thinking (situations are all good or all bad)
-Personalising (blaming yourself)
-Generalising
What is behavioural activation?
Getting people to act according to a plan rather than on how they feel
What principle is interpersonal therapy (IPT) based on?
-Idea that symptoms have multiple causes
-Works on the understanding that the quality of interpersonal relationships can cause, maintain and protect against depression
