What are the 3 levels of psyche?
Subconscious/unconscious, pre-conscious, conscious
What role does the past have according to psychodynamic theory?
Childhood experiences and relationships shape our personality in how we feel and behave in social and intimate relationships
This is something that happens because internal conflicts occur when our mind an dfeelings react differently with a particular person or situation thus leading to some mental compromise (e.g. defense mechanism)

When is the development of the self possible according to Margart Mahler?
When we are able to separate the shadow of our early caregivers and individuate to form a self uniquely to our own
What is the conscious?
Images, thoughts, perceptions in the awareness at any given time
What is the preconscious?
Memories, stored knowledge, not associated with anxiety but are merely forgotten
What is the unconscious?
Violent motives, fears, irrational wishes, selfish needs, shameful esperiences, unacceptable sexual desires, immoral urges
What does the life instinct entail?
Served the purpose of survival to satisfy physical needs for food, water, air, sex, etc.
What is the death instinct?
The unconscious drive towards decay, destruction, aggresion
The wish to hurt oneself, the wish to die is?
Self-destructiveness
What is the death instinct towards others?
Aggresion/Aggresive drive
Where is the pleasure principle aligned with in personality?
Id
Who controls the impulses of the id?
Ego
Who is the moral aspect of personality?
Superego
