Psychodynamic Perspective Flashcards

1
Q

Explain the 4 defining principles (key assumptions) of the psychodynamic perspective

A
  1. Behaviour is a result of conflict between different parts of the mind (Id, Ego, SuperEgo)

2.Important influences on behaviour come from a part of the mind that you have no direct awareness of the unconscious.

  1. Personality is shaped by relationships experience and conflict over time (especially during childhood). These can have a determinant influence on your future mental health.
  2. Our childhood significantly impact our behaviour as adults. Individuals have very little freewill to make choices in life; instead behaviour is determined by unconscious motives and childhood experiences.
