The role of the unconscious
A
Freud suggested the conscious mind is merely the ‘tip of the iceberg’. Most of the mind is made of unconscious- a vast storehouse of biological drives and instincts that has a significant influence on our behaviour and personality.

Ego-reality principle, protected by defence mechanisms.
Superego- formed age 5, sense of right and wrong, morality principle
