What is the ego?
The ego lies in the conscious layer of our psyche. It dictates the practical compromises between the demands of the Id and superego, resolving conflicts.
The superego is what?
The aspect that acts as our moral reasoning, guiding our behaviour, filtering them through our principles and concepts of what is right and wrong.
The superego is where?
The conscious
When does the superego develop?
Phallic stage
When does the Id develop?
It doesn’t, it’s with you from the beginning
When does the ego develop?
The anal stage
Why does the ego develop in the stage it does?
It develops in the anal stage as it this point the infant should gain self control, reasoning that it’s I their interest not to relive themselves passively but wait until they’re at a toilet because it’s more socially acceptable.
What is anal expulsive and anal retentive?
These are fixation types that can occur from unresolved conflict in the anal stage. Expulsive personalities are overly generous whereas retentive personalities are covetous
