What are the principles of the psychodynamic perspective?
- Our behaviour is a result of an interaction between unconscious innate drives and early experiences (this is holistic)
- Personality differences/abnormalities can be traced back to the way early conflicts between desire and experience were handled
What are examples of innate drives?
Reproduction and survival
What is the tripartite structure of human personality made up of?
- Conscious (ego)
- Preconscious (superego)
- Unconscious(ID)
What are examples of of the ego/conscious?
What we are aware of: -What we like -Our routines -Who’s talking to us etc.
What are examples of the superego/preconscious?
- Dreams
- Recent experiences
What are examples of the ID/unconscious?
- Past trauma
- Fears
- Passions
- Instinct
- Innate drives

The first part of our personality to develop; the unconscious part

Reality principle
