The shadow, the mask and the anima (men) animus (women)
Define the shadow
the surface of the self, the face we show to the outside world
Define the mask
is hidden, and represents the side of our self that we keep hidden because it contains socially undesirable traits (a bad temper, jealousy, laziness, etc.)
Define the anima
their “female side”
Define the animus
their “male side”
What relationship does the anima have in literature
Jung believed that the Anima presence in men created three main archetypes
of the feminine presence:
1) the nurturing Mother,
2) the sexual Temptress,
3)the old Crone (wise old woman - someone who gives advices - mentorship).
What relationship does the animus have in literature
Similarly, the Animus in women was split into three sides of the male presence

2) the lover
3) the destructive angel
