Bystander effect
Concept in social psychology explaining why larger # of people in group = less likely individual will help in emergency

When it feels like there’s an audience, actions are inhibited because fear of looking dumb
Social cues
People look to others for cues on how to behave. If no one else acts, reinforces notion no one else should act
Blocking mechanism
Someone stepping in to act may block others from doing so
Diffusion of responsibility
Assumption someone else will do it, so they don’t have to
Helper effect
If one person steps in to help, others are more likely to help
Conformity
Inclination to align attitude with those around you
Diffusion
Spread of cultural influence between individuals and groups. Language, clothes, customs, philosophies, religion, technology
Assimilation
Groups with different heritages absorbed into dominant culture
