How a person perceives the world (conscious perception)

How society shapes our behavior (environment impacts who you are)
Psychodynamic/psychoanalysis
Unconscious thoughts and feelings are the root of your behavior (Freud)
Applied psychology
Using research to conduct day to day work (studying the source of ADHD for example)
Basic/Research psychology
Try to find new info within their field
Psychotherapist
Someone who does any kind of psychotherapy (can be anyone)
Psychoanalyst
Someone who only practices psychoanalysis (advanced degree) mostly involves TALKING and SHARING MEMORIES
Psychiatrist
A M.D. that can prescribe medication ( tend to focus more on biological cause)
Principle of falsifiability
Any research/theory/experiment/ect. HAS to have the ability to be proven wrong
Case study
Detailed description of a particular individual, may be based on careful observation (used with one or two people and can contain info about relationships and childhood)
Benefits: personal in-depth look
Drawbacks: unrepresentative of whole
Observational studies
Two kinds- laboratory and natural
Lab: in an environment where the controlled variables are infinite, but people are not normal when they are not in normal environment
Natural: subjects observed in nat. environment (school or home), but strangers cause people to act different as well

Uniform procedures for giving and scoring a test

Established standards of performance
Reliable
Test must produce the same results from one time and place to the next
Valid
Must measure what it’s designed to measure
Correlation
A relationship between two things
