-Dementia -An acute delirium. -Depression (also called pseudodementia).
A 23-year-old man presents to his GP complaining of worsening headaches for the past few months. They are generalised and present most of the day. He also complains that he is more forgetful, forgetting appointments and telephone numbers. He attends with his partner who complains he has been more irritable in the past few months. He currently takes no medications and has no past medical history of note. He plays rugby for his local team but denies any major bumps to the head. He concedes that he has had a few rough matches this season. What is the most likely diagnosis? -Post-concussion syndrome -Space occupying lesion -Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease -Depression -Concussion
-Post-concussion syndrome ///////////////////////////// -Not Space occupying lesion because there are no focal neurological deficits (eg Seizure, vision problems) -Not early onset Alzheimer’s disease: this usually affects people in their 40s, 50s and early 60s. -Not depression due to no core symptoms -No concussion due to no major bumps and not acute

- Predominately elevated
- Irritable
Perception:
-Auditory hallucinations
Speech and thought:
- Pressured
- Flight of ideas: characterised by rapid speech with frequent changes in topic based on associations, distractions or word play
- Poor attention
- Delusions of granduer
Behaviour:
- Insomnia
- Loss of inhibitions: sexual promiscuity, overspending, risk-taking
- Increased appetite
Lasting for 8 days

- No hallucinations

- Pressured
- Flight of ideas: characterised by rapid speech with frequent changes in topic based on associations, distractions or word play
- Poor attention
Behaviour:
- Insomnia
- Loss of inhibitions: sexual promiscuity, overspending, risk-taking
- Increased appetite
Lasting for 5 days
Most likely diagnosis?
Hypomania
