Dx of schizophrenia
A) 2 of: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, catatonia/disorganized, negative symptoms
B) Decreased level of functioning
C) Persists for 6 months
Dx of schizophreniform
Same as schizophrenia but the condition has lasted more than 1 month and less than 6
Dx of schizoaffective
Meets criteria A of schizophrenia during a major mood episode.
Delusions/hallucinations for 2 weeks in the absence of a MME
Dx of Delusional disorder
A) 1 or more delusions for >1month
B) never met criteria A for schizophrenia
C) Functioning not impaired, behavior not bizarre
Brief psychotic disorder
lasts 1 day to 1 moth with a full return to baseline

Cluster A personality disorders
Odd/eccentric: Paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal
Cluster B personality disorders
Dramatic/emotional: Antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcissistic

Anxious/fearful: avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive
Cause of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
Thiamine (B1) deficiency, most commonly from chronic alcoholism.
S/S of Wernicke encephalopathy
Confusion and loss of mental activity, ataxia and leg tremor, diplopia, nystagmus, ptosis and alcohol withdrawal.
S/S of Korsakoff syndrome
Inability to form new memories, memory loss, confabulation, hallucinations
Tx for Wernicke-Korsekoff syndrome
Thiamine, folate, B12 and GIVING UP ALCOHOL
Paranoid personality d/o
Pervasive distrust or suspicion of others in a variety of contexts. Suspects others are exploiting/harming/deceiving them, doubts loyalty/trustworthiness, reluctant to confide in others, holds grudges, suspicion of partner cheating, perceives attacks
Schizoid personality d/o
Detached from social relationships, restrictive emotions.
Doesn’t desire relationships, chooses solitary activities, no interest in sex, indifferent to criticism or praise, no close friends, flattened affect.
Schizotypal personality d/o
Discomfort with personal relationships, perceptual distortions and eccentric behaviors. Odd beliefs/magical thinking, odd speech, unusual perceptual experiences, suspicious ideation, constricted affect, excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity.
Antisocial personality d/o
Pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of others’ rights occurring since age 15 and 3 of: failure to conform to social norms, deceitfulness, impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, irresponsibility, reckless disregard for safety, lack of remorse. (must be 18 to diagnose)
Borderline personality d/o
Pervasive instability of relationships, self-image, and affect. Marked impulsivity and 5 of: avoid real or imagined abandonment, unstable and intense relationships (alternates between idealization and devaluation), identity disturbance. Impulsive, recurrent suicidal behavior, affective instability, feelings of emptiness, inappropriate anger, stress related paranoid ideation.
Histrionic personality d/o
Excessive emotionality and attention seeking. Uncomfortable when not the center of attention, seductive/provocative, shallow expression of emotions, uses appearance to draw attention, exaggerated emotion, considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are.
Narcissistic personality d/o
Pervasive grandiosity, need for admiration and lack of empathy. Self-important, preoccupied with unlimited success, believes they are special or unique. Requires excessive admiration, sense of entitlement, envious, arrogant.
Avoidant personality d/o
Social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation. Avoids occupational activities, unwilling to get involved with people, fear of being shamed/criticized/rejected, socially inept, reluctant to take risks
