Psych Mock Flashcards
1
Q
Findings from lees study
A
- PRO-SOCIAL/TRUTH TELLING No significant cultural difference Canadian age made no difference China rating decreased with age -PRO-SOCIAL/LIE TELLING No significant cultural difference Canadian negative but score increase with age Chinese start negative turn positive with age
2
Q
3 independent variables from simons and Chabris
A
- whether the gorilla was the unexpected event or the umbrella lady was
- whether they were given the easy or hard task (number passes or passes Ariel and bounce)
- wether they were counting the white team passes or the black team could passes
3
Q
Nature/Nurture Debate
+core studies
A
Nature
- people’s behaviour is a result of their genetics
- baron-Cohen = autism from young age
- Casey = low/high delayers for whole life
- kohlberg = moral development stage happen in same order to everyone
Nurture
- people behaviour is a result of how they have been brought up
- Levine = simpatia culture
- Bandura = social learning
- Grant = context-dependent memory
4
Q
Why lees study is snapshot
A
- as he asked three separate aged group of children at 7,9,11 he didn’t follow one group around and sped up the study
- this also minimised the drop out rate as the longer the study goes on the higher the drop out rate will become
5
Q
What materials did kohlberg use in his study?
A
- the moral dilemmas e.g the heinz dilemma
- the sample (75 boys)
6
Q
Weaknesses of the behaviourist perspective
A
The behaviourist perspective believes that people are born tabula rasa and learn everything after birth
- ignores then influence of nature on behaviour not taking account of the role of genetics
- the lessons behaviourism teaches us can be difficult to apply, and can be used inappropriately
- because of the abundance of lab experiments the perspective lacks ecological validity and fails to resemble real life behaviours
7
Q
Compare biological and developmental areas in relation to the free will/ determinism debate
BIOLOGICAL
A
Biological
- how biology, especially neurobiology, affects behaviour and vice versa
- Deterministic = biology is determined from birth can’t be easily changed
- free will = as you can adapt the structure of your brain through activities
8
Q
Compare biological and developmental areas in relation to the free will/ determinism debate
DEVELOPMENTAL
A
Developmental
- how our thinking changes and develops as we get older and how we learn and form personalities
- Deterministic = everyone goes through the same stages of moral development in the same order
- free will = different cultures have different ways of thinking and behaving
9
Q
Why is Casey’s experiment quasi
A
- as the independent variable, if the participants are high/low delayers, is naturally occurring
10
Q
A strength of Casey’s study being quasi
A
- is that it allows the researcher to measure naturally occurring variables
- also as the IV is naturally occurring this increases the ecological validity
