Q

Nature/Nurture Debate

+core studies

A

Nature

  • people’s behaviour is a result of their genetics
  • baron-Cohen = autism from young age
  • Casey = low/high delayers for whole life
  • kohlberg = moral development stage happen in same order to everyone

Nurture

  • people behaviour is a result of how they have been brought up
  • Levine = simpatia culture
  • Bandura = social learning
  • Grant = context-dependent memory

Q

Why lees study is snapshot

A
  • as he asked three separate aged group of children at 7,9,11 he didn’t follow one group around and sped up the study
  • this also minimised the drop out rate as the longer the study goes on the higher the drop out rate will become

Q

Weaknesses of the behaviourist perspective

A

The behaviourist perspective believes that people are born tabula rasa and learn everything after birth

  • ignores then influence of nature on behaviour not taking account of the role of genetics
  • the lessons behaviourism teaches us can be difficult to apply, and can be used inappropriately
  • because of the abundance of lab experiments the perspective lacks ecological validity and fails to resemble real life behaviours

Q

Compare biological and developmental areas in relation to the free will/ determinism debate

BIOLOGICAL

A

Biological

  • how biology, especially neurobiology, affects behaviour and vice versa
  • Deterministic = biology is determined from birth can’t be easily changed
  • free will = as you can adapt the structure of your brain through activities

Q

Compare biological and developmental areas in relation to the free will/ determinism debate

DEVELOPMENTAL

A

Developmental

  • how our thinking changes and develops as we get older and how we learn and form personalities
  • Deterministic = everyone goes through the same stages of moral development in the same order
  • free will = different cultures have different ways of thinking and behaving

Q

A strength of Casey’s study being quasi
