what are the four stages of cognitive development theory?
Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete operational, Formal operational
What is sensory motor?
Children learn through sensory perception and motor activity.
birth to two years old
What is preoperational?
Children begin to use symbols (on thing that represents another). For example, using sand to make a
cake
2 to 7 years old
What is concrete operational?
Children become more rational in their thinking, For example, realizing that: Santa Claus probably doesn’t exist. 7 to 11 years old.
what is formal operational?
Stage of cognitive development in which thinking becomes very abstract. Children think beyond the present and think about ideal situations.
11+ years old
What is solitary play?
Playing alone
What is parallel play?
children play next to each other, but do not interact.
what is associative play?
when children play together, but have different ideas and goals.
what does cooperative play?
when children start working together towards a common goal.
what are the maslows hierarchy of needs?
1.self actualization -fulfill one’s life with purpose meaning, being all that one is able to be
- self-esteem - adequacy, confidence, importance
- belongingness and love (social) -
belonging, love, attention, acceptance - safety and security (comfort needs) - safety, security, stability
- basic (physical) - air to breathe, shelter to protect, water to drink, food to eat, clothes to wear
