Definition
A form of arthritis that affects some people with psoriasis
A disease that causes red patches of skin topped with silvery scales
Most people develop psoriasis years before being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis
For some people, both can develop at the same time
Causes
Autoimmune, the abnormal immune response causes inflammation in your joints as well as an overproduction of skin cells
Genetic and environmental factors play a role
Family history may also play a role
Symptoms
Both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are chronic and worsen over time.
– However, you might have periods when your symptoms improve or go away temporarily
Can affect joints on both sides of body. Signs and symptoms often resemble those of RA
Joints painful, swollen and warm
PA may also cause:
– swollen fingers and toes
– foot pain
– lower back pain
– nail changes
– eye inflammation
