refer to places with governments that are internationally recognized and have the power to oversee what happens within their borders (often in theory rather than in practice)

A
- Autonomy within a defined territorial border.
- Sovereignty is a state’s ability to hold supreme power and authority within its own borders. Essentially, this means that states are independent from outside or external interference in their domestic affairs.
