Pseudocolomate Taxonomy, generals, pyhlums and rotifers Flashcards
What are the 4 phylums of Pseudocoelomates?
Rotifera, Acanthocephala, Nematoda, Tardigrada
What are the 5 groups of the Phylum Nematoda?
Ascaris lumbricoids, Hookworms, Trichina worms, pinworms, filarial worms.
What is a a pseudocoel?
A body cavity that is not surrounded COMPLETELEY by the mesoderm.
What is a pseudocoel alternatively?
a persistent blastocoel and lacks a peritoneum (membrane that lines abdominal cavity)
What is the function of a pseudocoel? (4 of them)
- Acts as hydrostatic skeleton
2.provides storage area for waste materials - permits internal circulation
- Simpler to distribute materials throughout the body
What pseudocoelomate phylum does NOT have a complete gut?
Acanthocephala
What are the two development terms all pseudocoelomates are?
Triploblastic and Protostomes.
What are Rotifers named after?
Corona or cillated crown that looks like a spinning wheel when it beats. Roti = wheel fera = one that bears.
Habitat of Rotifers
Most are Benthic (live in bottom) and freshwater.
Corona:
ciliated crown that functions in feeding and locomotion
Sensory bristles aka
papillae
Do rotifers have a mouth, visceral organs, and sensory antennae?
Yes
Mastax -
modified phraynx
Trophi
hard jaws of muscular portion for sucking in and grinding food
What is the function of flame cells?
Osmoregulation and excretion of wastes
Bladder does what?
empties into cloaca along with oviducts
What is weird about Bdelloids specifically?
No males or hermaphrodites, only parthogenic females…weird for how old it has been along for.
Are rotifers Dioceious (Male or Female)
Yes
What is abnormal about female rotifers
Asexual or sexual reprodction choices they lay two kinds of eggs 1N and 2N.
Diploid amictic eggs develop into what
2N diploid females through mitosis via parthogenesis
unfertilized haploid 1Neggs develop into what?
Haploid males 1N
fertilized haploid eggs develop into?
“winter eggs” develop into amictic females.
