When a person dials 911 from a landline or cell phone it is connected to a carrier or phone company (Telus in AB) also known as Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers. Gathers callers phone number and location (Automatic Number Indicator/Automatic Location Indicator) The ANI/ALI dictates the correct Emergency Service Zone (893) or jurisdiction so call is quickly redirected to the specific PSAP (26) responsible for the area.
