What are ASF associated with benzodiazepines?
Increase the falls risk (elderly), decreased alertness, confusion and drowsiness and hypotension
What is important to remind patients of when taking a macrolide antibiotic (clarithromycin)
stop taking statin as interaction can casue rhabdomyolysis (dark urine, myalgia)
clarithromycin: CYP3A4 inhibitor which increases concentration of statins in the blood resulting in rhabdomyolysis
What is IV paracetmol dose for patients weighing more thn 50kg?
1g IV paracetamol every 4-6 hours with dose administered over 15 minutes
max dose is 4g per day
What are contraindications for NSAIDs?
peptic ulcer disease/gastro bleeding
vitamin K antagonist/direct thrombin inhibitor/anti-platelet (risk of major bleed)
gout
decreased renal function (eGFR less than 50mL/minute/1.73m2)
