PS Logic Games Ch 3 rules Flashcards
Linear game
One of the variable sets chosen as the “base” and is diagrammed in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically, and the remaining variable sets are placed into slots above or next to the base
One-to-one relationship
Each variable fills exactly one spot
4 Main type of Linear Rules
1) Variable placement rules
2) Fixed position rules
3) Sequencing or relative placement rules
4) Conditional rules
Variable placement rules
Where a variable can or cannot be placed
Not Laws
Line through letter - physically notate where a variable cannot be placed
Dual Options
H/J - When there are only two possible variables that can be placed in a single slot
Split Dual Options
H/__ __ /H - When a single variable has only tow possible positions
Triple Option
“A/B/C” - When single space can contain only one of three variables
Higher numbers
to the right (ex: 3 is higher than 2, 2 is higher than 1, etc)
Lower numbers
to the left (ex: 1 is lower than 2, 2 is lower than 3, etc)
Ahead
to the right
Earlier
to the right
Before
to the right
Preceding
to the right
West
to the right
Behind
to the left
Later

After

Following

East
to the left
When grades are listed as the base,
grades listed to the LEFT are “higher” or “better”
Blocks
[Y Z] - Represent fixed spatial relationship, variables that are next to each other
Split-Blocks
[D __ E] 0 Indicate that the variables are separated by a fixed number of spaces
In the linear stream, day 1 is
“before” day 2
