Is ramipril safe in pregnancy?
- Ramipril is teratogenic
- Labetalol is first line in pregnancy
What is the effect of tamoxifen on warfarin?
Tamoxifen increases the efficacy of warfarin -> increased INR
What is tamoxifen associated with increased risk of?
- Endometrial cancer
- VTE
- Stroke
Which anti-diabetic drug is associated with lactic acidosis?
Metformin
When should sulphonylureas be taken? Why?
- In the morning with breakfast
- Risk of nocturnal hypoglycaemia if taken at night
How often is methotrexate taken?
Once/week
What are the effects of alcohol on warfarin?
- Acute alcohol -> enzyme inhibition
- Chronic alcohol -> enzyme induction
If pts wish to drink the should;d spread their intake out over the week (smallest impact on INR)
What are the different warfarin tablets? (include colour and dose)
- White (0.5mg)
- Brown (1mg)
- Blue (3mg)
- Pink (5mg)
How often do patients on warfarin require INR monitoring?
- Weekly until stable
- Then monthly
Why do people get a cough with ACE-In?
- Thought to be due to release of bradykinin
- Often dose dependant
When is monitoring required after starting an ACE-In?
U+Es 1-2 weeks after starting
How often is alendronic acid taken?
Once/week
Can you take ADCAL and bisphosphonates at the same time?
- No
- Calcium salts reduce the absorption of bisphosphonates
When should you take bisphophonates in relation to food?
- 2 hours before eating
- Food reduces its absorption
What preparation of HRT is associated with a greater risk of breast Ca?
Combined HRT
