Crystalline Schist (quartz) - eastern provence, hills, scrub and woody plants called Maquis grow there. Limestone & Clay - northern and western provence, garrigue grows here.
What natural and ancient phenomena is responsible for the dramatic Languedocian landscapes and the Provencal massifs of Maures and Esterel?
Hercynian Trend - the ancient line of crustal deformation that runs underneath the Mediterranean from Pyrenees along the coast fo the languedoc to the esterel massif in Provence.
