Q

How does a cyclotron work

A
  1. Charged particles are injected into the center of the cyclotron, where there is a strong magnetic field.
  2. The magnetic field causes the particles to move in a circular path
  3. As the particles move, they pass through a gap between two hollow “D”-shaped electrodes
  4. Alternating electric fields between the dees accelerate the particles each time they cross the gap.
  5. The particles gain energy with each revolution until they reach the desired speed.
  6. Once the particles reach the desired energy level, they are extracted from the cyclotron and directed toward a target for various applications

This process allows for the production of high-energy particle beams for a range of scientific and industrial purposes.
