Proton transfer reactions - neutralisation reactions Flashcards
1
Q
What is a neutralisation reaction?
A
One in which an acid (pH<7) and a base (pH>7) react together to form water (pH=7) and a salt
2
Q
neutralisation reaction formula
A
acid + base → salt + water
3
Q
What does each part of the reactants form?
A
The proton of the acid reacts with the hydroxide of the base to form water (H+ (aq) + OH– → H2O (l)).
The spectator ions which are not involved in the formation of water form the salt.
