IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol, this allows you to access your email wherever you are, from any device. When you read an email using IMAP, you aren’t actually downloading or storing it on your computer; instead, you’re reading it from the email service.
POP3
Post Office Protocol 3, this sends and stores emails on a network, this is useful on PANs and LANs.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, this lets a user send and store emails on a network but a queue is involved with the number of emails.
DNS
Domain Name System, this translates domain names to IP Addresses, which computers can understand. It also provides a list of mail servers which accept emails for each domain name.
TCP
Transfer Control Protocol, a network communication protocol designed to send data packets over the Internet.
IP Address
Internet Protocol Address, a unique address that identifies a device’s location on the Internet or a network.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol, this is used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
HTTP/HTTPS
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol/Secure, this is used by the World Wide Web to define how messages are formatted and transmitted, this is a set of rules for transferring files across the WWW.
