They were either patriotic or scared of communism spreading

Many people didn’t want to go and fight but were forced

What was ‘Vietnam Veterans Against the War’?
A protest group formed by men who had fought
What happened with the veterans in 1971?
300,000 people went on a march they had organised
Why did the veterans have a big effect on Americans?
Because they were often injured and had medals so Americans were led to side with them
Why were so many young people against the war?
Because they were the ones likely to get drafted
They believed in ‘make love not war’
What did many university students do?
Held marches, sit ins and tried to prevent vehicles taking supplies to the war
When did the Kent State University Protest take place and what was it?
2nd of May 1970
Students demonstrated against the war on campus
What happened the second time the KSU students tried to demonstrate?
The national guard were sent to stop them
They used teargas then retreated
Some students followed and threw rocks at them so they open fired
How many students were killed/ injured during the KSU protest?
4 killed
9 injured
What was significant about the four people killed during the KSU protest?
They weren’t protesting they were just passing on way to their lectures
