Europe
Which countries are more likely to be influenced by protestanism?
Scotland and England because more travelers and more open minded
Less likely is Ireland and Wales, because more cath
What does Henry 8th rule through?
Privy Council (Ministers)
-> Thomas Wolsey
-> Thomas Cromwell
What title does the pope grant Henry 8th?
Fervent defender of the Church
Because he wrote a book against Luther’s ideas
What problems do Henry 8th have with the church?
- No male heir and wants a divorce
- Wary of the cath church in England
Why would Henry 8th be wary of the cath church?
-> It’s ability to interfere in the local life and change the kings decisions
-> Owned a lot of land through churches and monasteries
Why do the pope refuse the divorce between Henry and his wife?
-> Pope is from the same family as the queen
What does Henry change in England to be divorced without the pope?
-> He changes the Arch Bishop of Canterbury to Thomas Cranmer who’s positive to their divorce (1532)
What are the two Acts Henry imposes in GB after his divorce?
-> Act in restraints of Appeal which removes the power of the Church from England
-> Act of Supremacy which makes Henry the supreme head of the Church of England
What does the church of England looks like after both acts?
-> Henry 8th
-> Arch Bishop (Thomas Cranmer)
-> Bishops
-> Etc…
The church changes hierarchy, not religion. It is still catholic.
Result of H8th reign?
