Proteinuria Flashcards
Normal urinary protein excretion per day?
normal = 80 mg/day
and <150
albumin 15% of this
what is benign proteinuria?
<1000mg /24 hours in children
transient causes of proteinuria?
fever
exercise
UTI
generall aetiology of proteinuria?
glomerular - 1-20g per day, generally albumin & haematuria, caused by DM, HTN, minimal change, FSGS, SLE, IgA, amyloid
Tubular - 2g per day, LMW proteins generally, ATN, interstitial, obstruction, cystic
overflow - myeloma, rhabdo, polymyositis
problems with using dipstick to investigate proteinuria?
dipstick testing limited sensitivity for non-albumin proteinuira
- falsely negative in tubular/overflow proteinuria
Ix if dipstick finds proteinuria?
24-hour collection
urine ACR on morning sample
urine PCR
