Proteins Flashcards
What are enzymes
Smaller insoluble proteins
biological catalysts
produced in every cell
they speed up essential biological reactions
What happens if u add a catalyse (manganese oxide) to Hydrogen peroxide
Speed up the rate that hydrogen peroxide breaks down and produces
What is an enzyme
a biological catalysts
speed up cellular reactions and remain UNCHANGED in the process
What are proteins
long chain molecules
combine together to make long fibres
large insoluble molecules
What are hormones
chemical messengers
important in the regulation of processes ie growth and sugar balance in humans
what are receptors
found in the cell membrane
specific shape
bind to molecules
trigger a specific change
what are antibodies
y shaped proteins
produced by white cells part of immune response
destroy pathogens
What would happen if cells did not contain enzymes?
Reactions would occur too slowly for life too exist. Therefore not fast enough for a living organism
What are chromosomes
threadlike structures
23 pairs
control features
