Protein Synthesis Flashcards
Making a copy of the gene. The copy is a strand of mRNA
Transcription
In initiation in prokaryotes, what does the sigma and RNA polymerase form when they are binded?
Holoenzyme
Sigma binds to a specific region of DNA the regulate the expression of groups of genes
Promoter region
RNA polymerase binds to the template strand to open a (transcription bubble) and begins to read the bases ( coding strand is not read)
Helix
The template strand is read in what direction?
‘3-5’ direction.
What direction do you write the complementary strand of mRNA transcript?
5’ to 3’ direction ( same as the coding strand with exception of U and T)
In elongation in prokaryotes, what enter the holoenzyme that it then are linked together to form the growing strand of mRNA.
Ribonucleoside triphosphate (NTPs)
In termination in prokayotes, when does transcription ends? (a sequence of complementary nucleotides).
When a hair pin loop forms
What happens when the hair loop forms?
It interferes with the interaction between RNA polymerase and the strand of mRNA. It displaces it and transcription ends.
