protein synthesis Flashcards
which organelles are used in protein synthesis?
- ribosomes
- rough ER
- vesicles
- cytoskeleton
- golgi-apparatus
- secretory vesicles
- cell surface membrane
- lysosomes
describe the process of protein synthesis
1) proteins are synthesised on the ribosomes bound to the rough ER
2) they pass into the cisternae of the rough ER and are packaged into transport vesicles
3) vesicles with the synthesised proteins move along the cytoskeleton towards the golgi apparatus
4) the vesicles fuse with the cis-face of the golgi-apparatus and the proteins enter
5) the proteins are structurally modified and packaged
6) the vesicles leave the golgi-apparatus via the trans face
7) secretory vesicles carry proteins to be released from the cell- these fuse with the cell surface membrane and release their contents via exocytosis
8) some vesicles form lysosomes, which contain enzymes for use in the cell
