prostho 2 lesson 2 Flashcards
ANATOMIC CONSEQUENCES
- Loss of ridge volume both in height and width
2.Greater mandibular bone loss than maxillary bone loss - Bone loss is more pronounced posteriorly than anteriorly
- Bone loss creating broader mandibular arch and constricted maxillary arch.
- Attached gingiva of the alveolar bone can be replaced with less keratinized oral mucosa, which is more readily traumatized.
PHYSIOLOGIC CONSEQUENCES
- less muscular guidance
- change in chewing pattern
- altered lip support
- reduce on facial heigh
REQUIREMENTS FOR AN ACCEPTABLE
METHOD OF CLASSIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION SHOULD FOLLOW RATHER THAN PRECEDE ANY EXTRACTIONS OF TEETH THAT MIGHT ALTER THE ORIGINAL CLASSIFICATION
IF THE THIRD MOLAR IS MISSING AND IS NOT TO BE REPLACED, IT IS NOT CONSIDERED IN THE CLASSIFICATION
IF THE 2ND MOLAR IS MISSING AND NOT TO BE REPLACED, IT IS NOT CONSIDERED IN THE CLASSIFICATION
IF THE 3RD MOLAR IS PRESENT AND TO BE USED AS AN ABUTMENT, IT IS CONSIDERED IN THE CLASSIFICATION
EDENTULOUS AREAS OTHER THAN THOSE THAT DETERMINE THE CLASSIFICATION ARE REFERRED TO AS MODIFICATIONS AND ARE DESIGNATED BY THEIR NUMBER.
THE MOST POSTERIOR EDENTULOUS AREA ( OR AREAS) ALWAYS DETERMINES THE CLASSSIFICATION.
NO MODIFICATION AREAS CAN BE INCLUDED IN THE CLASS IV ARCH
THE EXTENT OF THE MODIFICATION IS NOT CONSIDERED ONLY THE NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL EDENTULOUS AREAS
- partial denture that is cemented to natural
teeth or roots which furnish the primary support to the prosthesis.
a restoration or replacement which is attached
by a cementing medium to a natural tooth, roots, or implants.
A branch of prosthodontics that is responsible in making an artificial appliance used to replaced a missing teeth and its contiguous structure in a partially edentulous mouth. This appliance can be placed and removed by patient at will.
An artificial restoration used to replace a missing tooth or teeth and its surrounding structures in a partially edentulous arch.
