Stress and effect
How strong different syllables are uttered. Gives focus to particular element of speech
Pitch and effect
How high the voice is and we modulate pitch depending on the meaning we wish to convey
Intonation and effect
The changing of pitch across an utterance. Distinguishes statements from questions
High rising terminal
Where statements have an information rising at the end rather then falling and is used as a floor holding strategy
Tempo and effect
Concerns the speed of speech. Fast speech can indicate excitement whereas slow speech can indicate deliberation
Volume and effects
Loudness in which we speak. Might speak loudly when angry and speak softly to soothe someone
