R v Robinson-D took money during a fight, honestly believed it was his. Held-not guilty, no S2.
Mens rea for robbery
MR for theft (dishonest with intention to permanently deprive)
and intention to use force/seek to put in fear of force

B & R v DPP-D does not need to be successful in creating fear. V was not scared, but it was sufficient D seeks to cause V to fear.
Immediately before/at time of theft cases (2)
R v Hale-can be a continuing act. D entered house and stole jury box, then put hand over Vs mouth. Claimed not robbery as force took place after theft, however denied as continuing act.
Lockley-using force to escape can still be at times of theft, and can be against any person-not just victim of theft
In order to steal meaning
Force for another purpose is not robbery if D later decides to steal
