Properties of real numbers Flashcards
What they are and how they're used
Which property deals with adding?
Communitive of addition
What does the associative property do?
Grouping changes
The brackets can move (not the order of #s) but the answer will remain the same.
What does the associative property of multiplication do?
It changes the order of the brackets.
What is the Communitive Property?
It changes the order of the numbers but doesn’t change the answer
e.g. 4+5 = 5+4 , 45=54
-5+0=-5
This is the Additive Identity Property.(Any # plus zero equals the original)
What is the multiplicative Identity Property ?
Any # multiplied by 1 equals itself
“Any # multiplied by its reciprocal equals to one”
Multiplicative Inverse
-5+5=0 is an example of ________
Additive inverse property; any # plus its reciprocal is equal to zero (0)
The multiplicative inverse of zero does what?
When a number is multiplied by zero it equals to zero as well
4+5+6=6+5+4
Communitive of Addition
(8+2)+4=8+(2+4)
Associative of Multiplication
-9+9=0
Addition Inverse Property
33*0=0
Multiplicative Property of Zero
14+10=10+14
Communitive of addition
How do you remember what the Communtive property does?
COmmuntive
C-Change
O-Order
The distributive property does what?
If there is a number outside brackets you multiply all the numbers inside the brackets
E.g. 125(10+5) = 12510+ 1255
The following equation is an example of what property?
E.g. 2(3+2a)
The Distributive Property
5/0=?
Undefined
Any # divided by zero remains undefined
