Properties of Matter vocab Flashcards
definitions of Properties of Matter
Mass
the amount of atoms an object is made of
Physical properties
characteristics that can be seen without changing the atoms of an object
Chemical properties
changes the characteristics of the object with the atoms changing
Melting point
is the temperature at which the/a solid melts to become a liquid
Freezing point
The temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid
Boiling point
when a liquid reaches a temperature at which bubbles form inside the body of the liquid, then the liquid starts turning into gas
Solubility
the ability of a substance to dissolve
Solute
the substance which is being dissolved (powder)
Solvent
substance in which the solute is dissolved (water/liquid)
Solution
a mixture of solute and solvent
Saturation
the point at which no more can be dissolved
Weight
the force of gravity on an object
Volume
the amount of space an object takes up
Density
the measurement of how tightly a material is packed together
Mixture
2 or more substances that are mixed together but no chemically combined
