properties of fluids Flashcards
what is flow rate?
fluid flow involves both the movement of a fluid and the movement of an object through a fluid. and how quickly a fluid flows in a given amount is called it’s flow rate.
what is a force?
a force is a push or pull that causes changed in movement
what does dynamic mean?
systems that involve movemet, such as moving fluids, are said to be dynamic.
what is the meaning to aerodynamics?
air or gas moving around solid objects is referred to as “aerodynamics” (aero meaning air)
what is the meaning of hydrodynamics?
the motion of liquids around a solid is referred to as “hydrodynamics” (hydro meaning water)
explain the kinetic molecular theory?
all matter can exsist in three states: solid liquid and gas and each can change from one or the other. the kinetic molecular theory provided a model to help us understand.
-all matter is composed of molecules of other types of particles.
particles are in constant motion
there are forces of attraction among particles.
easier to say: matter=everything
solid to liquid-
melting
liquid to a gas-
evaporation
as heat energy is removed from a gas the particles start to slow down. the gas becomes a liquid if enough energy is removed. this process is changing matter from a gas to liquid.
condensation
removing even more heat energy can cause a liquid to change into a solid called-
solidification
water can also directly change directly from a solid to a gas or from a gas to a solid without going through the liquid state is called-
sublimation
the water that travels in a starlight or almost straight line is called-
laminar flow
now imagine a shallow river with irregular rocks breaking the surface so the water is now broken and choppy unable to flow straight. this is called-
turbulent flow
explain viscosity-
viscosity is the resistance of a fluid to flowing and movement.
explain to me, cohesion-
the attractive forces among the particles of a substance is known as cohesion
