Properties of Flammable Liquids Flashcards
What is LEL?
The concentration of flammable gas/vapour in the air is below the limit - no explosion will occur
What is UEL?
Percentage of flammable gas/vapour in air is above the limit - no explosion will occur
When will combustion occur?
Combustion will only occur if the flammable mixture comprising fuel, in the form of gas/vapour and air are within certain limits
What is Flash Point?
Lowest temperature at which sufficient vapour is given off a liquid, to form a flammable mixture with air. Can be ignited by an arc, spark or naked flame
What is ignition temperature?
Minimum temperature at which a flammable material will spontaneously ignite
What is Auto - ignition temperature?
Minimum temperature required to ignite a gas or vapour in air without a spark or flame being present.
What is Temperature Classification?
Maximum temperature which any part of the apparatus will reach, when operating within normal design ratings at an ambient temperature not 40 degrees.
