Properties Of Biomaterials Flashcards

1
Q

How to calculate strain?

A

Strain = change in length per original length when subjected to load ie deformation/original length

Q

What is proportional limit

A

Stress at which material no longer displays elastic behavious, material deforms plastically, permanent strain

Q

What is plastic behaviour

A

Happening beyond proportional limit. Stress and strain not proportional. Object does not recover to original dimension when load is released

Q

What is ultimate tensile strength

A

Maximum stress material can withstand before failure in tension ie beyond which specimen starts to elongate and there is reduction of cross sectional area

Q

What is elastic modulus

A

Stress/strain

Low modulus = less rigid
Less stress for same strain/deformation
