What is chemistry?
The study of substances; what they are, what they do, what they’re used for, etc.
What is a physical property?
A description of a substance such as colour, smell, taste, density, boiling point, etc.
What is a chemical property?
A description of how a substance reacts when mixed with other substances (such as oxygen, acid, etc)
What is a physical change?
A change in a substance that does not create a new substance.
What is a chemical change?
A change in a substance that creates a new substance, which has it’s own properties.
What type of change is sugar dissolving in water?
Physical
What type of change is ice melting?
Physical
What type of change is cooking an egg?
Chemical
What type of change is a rusting nail?
Chemical
What are the 5 pieces of evidence that a chemical change has occurred?
- A new colour
- Bubbles formed (new gas)
