Subjective Case:
Used when the pronoun is a “subject” or “subject complement” of the clause.
Please list the 7 subject pronouns
I, You, He, She, We, They, it
“We moved to the United States three years ago.”
We = pronoun = subject of the verb “moved”
“The fastest runner on the track team is she.”
She = pronoun = subject complement, (The verb “is” is not one of action but a state of being) (she refers but to the subject “runner”)
Personal Pronouns always take one of three cases
Please name them?
- The subjective case
- The objective
- The possessive case
Objective Case: Used when the pronoun is: i. a direct object, (transitive) ii. an indirect object, (doesn't receive the action of the verb - appears between the verb and the direct object or iii. the object of a preposition.

Objective Case Pronouns:
“The nominating committee selected him.”
Verb = selected
Committee = subject of the verb “selected”
Him = ?
Direct object of the verb “selected” (transitive verb)
Him receives the “action” of the verb
Objective Case Pronouns:
Deborah sang us two songs.
Verb = sang
Subject = Deborah
Direct object = songs
Indirect object = ?
Us = indirect object of the verb sang

Verb = named
Subject = Hindley
Direct Object = parakeet
Me = ?
Object of the preposition “after”
After me = prepositional phrase
Possessive Case Pronouns:
Used when a pronoun shows possession or ownership.
Please name the 12 possessive pronouns
My, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its, our, ours, their, theirs
No apostasy should be used
Possessive Case Pronouns:
There are two ways to use possessive case pronouns
i. Like and adjective to modify a noun
(Pls name the 7)
“Dr Chen took his car to the garage for a tune up”
My, your, his, her, its, our, their
Noun = car
Possessive pronoun = his = used like an adjective as it gives more information about the car
Possessive Case Pronouns:
There are two ways to use possessive case pronouns:
ii. Standing alone, and not modifying a noun

His = possessive noun - stands alone and is not followed by a noun
