Expository writing is to the point and factual. This category of writing includes definitions, instructions, directions, and other basic comparisons and clarifications. Expository writing is devoid of descriptive detail and opinion. Example prompt: describe the Greeks code of hospitality and give an example of it in action

Used to create a vivid idea of a picture, place, person, or idea; much like painting with words. Prompt example: describe in detail the richness of Menelaus’s palace in Sparta
