How might a female with prolactinoma present?
A
Irregular menses or amenorrhoea= due to prolactin acting to suppress LH and FSH
Galactorrhoea
Subfertility/infertility due to shortened luteal phase
Hypogonadism= decreased LHRH
Osteoporosis= due to lack of oestrogen

How might a man with prolactinoma present?
A
Impotence or loss of libido
Infertility
Gynaecomastia or galactorrhoea
Hypogonadism due to low testosterone

How is suspected prolactinoma investigated?
A
MRI of pituitary to localise the adenoma

How can prolactinoma be treated?
A
Dopamine agonists= act to decrease the production of prolactin
Surgical removal of adenoma
