Prokaryotic?Eukaryotic Cell Parts Flashcards
What is the nucleus?
The control center - it contains genetic information (DNA)
What does a ribosome do?
Builds Proteins
What does a nucleolus do?
Builds Ribosomes
What does a Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum do? (Rough ER)
It builds lipids, proteins, and transports vesicles
What does a Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum do? (Smooth ER)
It builds lipids, store calcium, and detoxify
What does a Golgi Apparatus do?
Modifies, sorts, and ships proteins by vesicles
What is a Plasma Membrane?
It regulates traffic in and out of the cell
What is a Lysosome? (animals)
From Golgi, to digest food and organelles
What does a Peroxisome do?
It breaks down and detoxifies molecules
What is a central vacuole? (plants)
It fills with water to help plants grow
What does a cell wall do? (plants)
Protects and supports
What is the Plasmodesma? (plants)
A channel that connects cytosol
What does a Chloroplast do? (plants)
Transforms light energy to chemical energy
What does Mitochondria do?
Transforms chemical energy from stored to ATP
What is the Cytoskeleton?
The organelle and cell movement, and cell shape
