Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
What are the structures of a prokaryotic cell?
Cell wall, pilli, flagellae, cell membrane, plasmid, nucleoid, 70s ribosomes
What is gram staining?
A technique that distinguishes the different amounts of peptidoglycan In a cell wall
Does a gram positive or gram negative cell wall have more peptidoglycan?
Gram positive has a lot of peptidoglycan, gram negative has a thin layer
What are the two types of virus pathways?
Lytic and lysogenic
How do virus’ attach to host cells?
By means of specific proteins (antigens) known as virus attachment particles that target the host cell surface membrane.
How are virus’ classified?
By their genome and their mode of replication.
How do virus’ reproduce?
They reproduce within the cells of the body. The bacteriophage injects their genome into a host cell. The viral DNA forms a circle or plasmid within the bacterium.
