Prokaryotic Cell Ultra Structure Flashcards
1) What is a Prokaryotic cell?
2) Give an example.
1) A prokaryote is a cell wihout any membrane-bound organells including no nucleus.
2) bactria
What organelles do Prokaryotes have in common with Eukaryotes?
Ribosomes, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Cell wall.
1) What are the organelles shared by both Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes but are different in structure?
2) What are the differernces?
1) Ribosomes and Cell Walls
2a) Ribosomes –Prokaryotes have 70S instead of the 80S inside Eukaryotes.
2b) Cell Walls – Prokaryotic Cell Walls are made from peptidoglycan Instead of Celulose like in Eukaryotic plant cells.
What organelles are exclusively inside Prokaryotic cells?
Capsuals, Flagellum, Pili and Plasmids.
What is the function of the Flagellum?
A tail like structure that aids movement.
What is the function of the Plasmids?
DNA coil/loops that can be exchanged between bacteria cells.
What is the function of the Nucleoid?
Circular loop of DNA(instead of neucleus).
What is the function of Pili?
Hair like extensions that aid environmental detection and allow the bacteria to exchange resources(includin Plasmids).
What is the function of the Capsule?
A slimy protective layer.
What is the function of the Cell Wall?
To provide structure to the cell.
What is the function of the Cytoplasm?
The site where most of the cells chemical reactions take place.
What is the Purpose of ribosomes?
protein Synthesis.
What is the function of the Cell Membrane?
Controls what enters and exits the cell.
